Enemies of God

James now turns from the conflict within ourselves and in the Church, to our conflict with God. If we try to do things according to our own wisdom and ideas, we reject God and become His enemy. There is a movement in the Church today to adopt the methods and standards of the world, but this puts us in opposition to God and His plan.

James 4:4

I.) Friendship With The World:

A.) Adulterers and Adulteresses: Jeremiah 3:8, Ezekiel 16:32, Hosea 1:2

B.) Friendship With Christ: John 15:14-16, 1 John 2:15-17

C.) Friendship With The World: 1 John 4:5, Ephesians 2:2, Galatians 1:10, Matthew 6:24 NASB

II.) Enemies of God:

A.) Becoming God’s Enemy: Romans 8:6-9, Romans 7:5, 2 Peter 2:12-15

B.) God’s Response to Enemies: Psalm 68:21, Nahum 1:2, Hebrews 10:29-31, Philippians 3:18-19

C.) Association with God’s Enemies: 2 Corinthians 6:14-17, Ephesians 5:3-7, Proverbs 14:12

Food for thought: We can either follow God or the world, not both.
