Teachers in the Church

God has called teachers to instruct us in His word and to be examples to the church.
James continues his discussion about the Christian life with a warning to potential teachers.
He is telling teachers to live above reproach. He also tells us teachers will be accountable for everything taught and for their conduct.

James 3:1

I.) Calling of Teachers:

A.) God Provides Teachers to the Church: 1 Corinthians 12:28, Ephesians 4:11, 1 Peter 4:10-11

B.) God’s Charge to Teachers: Ezekiel 33:7-9, 2 Timothy 4:1-8, Romans 12:6-8

II.) Responsibilities of Teachers:

A.) Example to the Church: 1 Timothy 4:12, Titus 2:7-8, 1 Thessalonians 2:10, 2 Thessalonians 3:7-9, 1 Peter 5:3

B.) Accurately Study God’s Word: 2 Timothy 2:15, 2 Corinthians 4:2, 1 Timothy 4:1-2, 1 Corinthians 2:6-8, 1 Timothy 1:3-7

C.) Accurately Proclaim God’s Word: 1 Timothy 4:6-16, 2 Timothy 2:23, Acts 20:26-27, 2 Peter 1:8-16

III.) Condemnation of False Teachers:

A.) Punishment of False Teachers: 2 Peter 2:1-3, Galatians 1:8, Matthew 23:14, 1 Timothy 1:19-20

B.) Separation from False Teachers: 1 Timothy 6:2-5, 1 Corinthians 3:13-15
