Trials and Our Response, Part I
We will have trials in our life. Becoming a Christian does not exempt us from trials in our life. James will encourage us to respond correctly to the trials God allows in our life. God allows trials in our life for various reasons; we are to respond correctly to those trials.
James 1:2-4 NASB
I.) We will have trials in this life. V2
A.) Reasons for trials
- Test the strength of our faith: 2 Chronicles 32:31, Habakkuk 3:17-18, Job 42:5-6
- Trials are given to humble us: 2 Corinthians 12:7
- Trials remove our dependence on our things: John 6:5-7, Hebrews 11:24-26
- Trials call us to a heavenly hope: Philippians 1:23-24, Romans 8:18-25, 2 Corinthians 4:14, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
- Trials reveal what we really love: Deuteronomy 10:12, Deuteronomy 13:1-3, Matthew 22:37-38
- Trials teach us to value God’s blessings: Psalms 63:3-7, Hebrews 12:2
- Trials develop enduring strength for greater usefulness: 2 Corinthians 2:10, Hebrews 11:33-34, Isaiah 41:10
- Trials allow us to help others during their trials: Luke 22:31-32, Hebrews 2:18, Hebrews 4:15, 2 Corinthians 1:3-6
