What is the Christians responsibility to support the church? Has that responsibility changed with the
current economic climate? As always, the answers are found in God’s Word.

I.) Reasons To Give

A.) Commanded by God: Luke 6:38, Acts 20:35, Proverbs 3:9-10, Matthew 25:31-40

B.) Provide for Teaching the Word: 1 Corinthians 9:14, Galatians 6:6, 1 Timothy 5:17-18, Philippians 4:17-19

C.) Provide for Others in Need: Acts 2:44-45, Acts 4:32-35, Acts 11:29-30, Romans 15:25-26, Romans 12:9-15

D.) Act of Worship: 2 Corinthians 8:1-5, Romans 12:1

II.) Christian Pattern of Giving

A.) Tithes: Genesis 14:17-20 NASB, Leviticus 27:30-33, Matthew 23:23, Luke 18:9-12, Hebrews 7:5-10, 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

B.) Freely: Exodus 35:5, Exodus 35:21-22, 2 Corinthians 8:12, Philemon 1:14

C.) Regularly: 1 Corinthians 16:1-2

D.) Proportionally: 2 Corinthians 8:3, 2 Corinthians 8:12

E.) Sacrificially: 2 Corinthians 8:1-6, Mark 12:41-44
